Satellite
Fiction Submission Guidelines
| · Submissions must be sent
by email. Email submissions should be sent to The
Editors. Submissions sent to other email addresses will not be disqualified,
but may be errantly deleted or ignored. There is currently no physical
address for Satellite Fiction, as the editors are men of the world and
travel often. Therefore paper submissions cannot be accepted at this time · Please specify in your cover letter whether you are seeking publication online, in print, or in both. The deadline for submissions for print issue #2 is November 1, 2005. · Satellite Fiction only publishes fiction. Poetry, essays, photography, crude drawings, paintings, movie reviews, manifestos, and other creative outlets are recognized by Satellite Fiction as valid forms of art, but have no place within our format. True personal accounts may find a place in the publication if they are a) interesting and b) at least thinly veiled. · Satellite Fiction tends to prefer works with a somewhat minimal tone. Remember, you are not being paid by the word, and for the time being, you are not being paid at all for your contributions to Satellite Fiction. · Compensation will consist of a) any criticism that we deem necessary of your work, not out of mean-spiritedness, but out of a desire to help you improve upon your craft, b) exposure, which to the undiscovered writer is far more valuable than any dollar amount we could offer you, and c) a free copy of the issue containing your contribution, which will make a fine mantle-piece and conversation-starter. · Considering the drive toward stories of a minimal nature, submissions will be limited to a length of six double spaced pages in a reasonable font. Submissions should be attached to the email as a Microsoft Word document, or as plain text. Longer stories displaying a high level of excellence will be considered for serialization on a case by case basis. · Genre stories are generally frowned upon by Satellite Fiction, but will be considered in cases of exceptional quality. We are not looking for by-the-book westerns, horror stories, or detective thrillers. You are encouraged to break the rules of genre. · Stories dealing in Science Fiction must reach beyond the current zeitgeist. Stories dealing in Starfleet's, cyberpunk, space operas, and time travel are not welcome. Of course, a fresh and compelling reinvention will receive consideration. Sparing use of these tropes in a predominately literary story is also encouraged. · Satellite Fiction is not a proofreading service. Submissions should be treated with a heavy level of professionalism. This means stories will be submitted already checked for spelling, grammar, and proper use of punctuation. |
