"Considering
the mess last year? Maybe. I've noticed people tend to just ignore that
I exist for fear of setting off some firestorm in the press. Speaking
of which, how is security?" Neil began to laugh, shaking Kathy awake. "Good enough considering how many of us notables will be there." "So, Fuller, won't it be strange for you to enter a church, considering?" asks Neil. He affects more of an accent than his cousin. I eye him through the rear view. Kathy dozing off with her head in his lap while he frets an imaginary guitar. "Considering the mess last year? Maybe. I've noticed people tend to just ignore that I exist for fear of setting off some firestorm in the press. Speaking of which, how is security?""What's the headcount? Eve's kept me pretty much in the dark." Ian laughs uncontrollably for a half a minute, sucking in air at the briefest pauses. "She likes doing that. Says it keeps you on your toes," he says. Yeah, she can be a bitch. Kathy is sitting up again and rifling through her purse. Ian keeps an eye on her. "I know Freddy's gonna be there. Between you, him, Kathy's notoriety of late and myself, we had to keep the location fairly secret. That's partly why it's not in Haverbrook." Kathy's hand finally emerges from her purse. "I got something for you, Ian," she says in that odd valley girl-like way of hers. In her hand was a small white pill. "Coedine?" I laughed. She eyes me. "No, Vicodin. He needs to calm down." He needs to be put to sleep while I drive, actually. "Why do I need to calm down?" Ian yells. "You're upsetting the driver, for one," I say. Everyone gives me the evil eye. "You're a little bit wired for your own good, really," she says. "And you are making Fuller nervous. We don't need him crashing a car today, do we?" Neil says. Ian takes the pill from Kathy. "Besides, she likes drugging up people." Neil laughed. "Anything for you, Fuller?" Kathy asked. "Coedine. I'm gonna need it when you fucks start doing the chicken dance." A drive up to Malibu with two British Bugs, the Queen Minx and all the David Bowie a man can stand makes for a great Saturday. I skip tracks until we hit "Modern Love."[read on] |
