The Satellite Show: Satire Radio for the Internet Age

1998-2003

The Satellite Show was the brain child of Erik Amaya and Shannon Prestridge; a format devised in the wake of Shannon's revelation that she hated playing 80s music on her radio show, Champion of El Nino. While Shannon recupperated in the heat of Las Vegas during the Summer of 1998, Erik, as DJ Prickle, tested the new format as version 1.0 of the Satellite Show.
The Satellite Show would continue to refine its style, gaining cast members Dave Merson-Hess, Duane McLemore, and Mark Carpenter along the way until sometime in 2000, the Satellite Show became active with its core cast and began adventuring around the Los Angeles Metroplex. These often disasterous excursion became the fodder for many of the show's great segments. By this point, Shannon had moved to Russia and the music portion of the show was de-emphasized in favor of such segments as "How Long Can Prickle Stand It?" and "Satellite Show Sport." It was at this time, the show became know for being "satire radio in the internet age." The Satellite Show website was active in this period, updating every so often with fun clips and other items of interest. The Satellite Show ceased recording in May of 2003 with the departure of Duane McLemore from Southern California.
